Scott, currently the Bullpen catcher for the Detroit Tigers, joined the Michigan Bulls coaching staff in 2007. Scott, who has been part of the Tigers organization since 2005, has worked with many current Tiger pitchers such as Jeremy Bonderman, Joel Zumaya, Justin Verlander and recently traded prospect, Andrew Miller. Scott’s role isn’t just as a bullpen catcher though, in fact, he throws pre-game batting practice to the Tigers hitters. This is considered one of his most important roles, possibly giving him the edge over the competition when first trying out in 2005. One of his prouder moments came in 2007 when he was asked to throw live batting practice to current Tigers All-Star Outfielder Magglio Ordonez in the 2007 Homerun Derby in San Francisco.
Scott, a 2004 graduate of CMU, lettered in 2001 and 2002 before spending two years as a student assistant coach. He graduated from Central with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from CMU with a triple minor in Language Arts, Physical Education, and Mathematics. He was a Dean's List and Athletic/Academic Honor Roll student-athlete as an undergraduate. From there, Scott played professionally for the Chillicothe Paints of the independent Frontier League during 2003 and 2004.
Scott’s role with the Michigan Bulls has been vital, especially with the older players. Scott’s energy and attention to detail has helped many of the catchers in the organization improve almost instantly. We look forward to having Scott with us as much as possible before he leaves for Spring Training.
